What is HotPools
HotPools is a ZYTRAX Core Technology that provides sophisticated resource sharing, Quality of Service (QoS) and Bandwidth management. HotPools software constantly monitors individual connection demand and dynamically (the 'Hot' part) adds or removes capacity from a 'Pool' of resources. Think of it like a packet network. Because resources are 'shared' (within defined limits) efficiency is maximised and, the good part, ...costs are lowered. HotPools detailed feature list
HotPools Functionality and Benefits - Overview
Peer to Peer
HotPools creates an 'Always ON' service using the most
appropriate methods. In the case of ISDN connections either end of the
link may initiate a connection, in the case of Wireless links 'bandwith management'
functionality determines throughput.
|
Customer Benefits
- Links are monitored continuously and capacity dynamically added or removed every 5 to 30 seconds from a Pool of resources (links).
- The bandwidth required to satisfy your customer's demand is constantly available. Contented customers ALL the time. Classic access systems, due to cost, typically use a computed average which means that half the time ALL customers are unhappy.
- Typically with a PVA enabled system you will get twice or more of the bandwidth for the same cost.
|
Resource Sharing
HotPools uses resource sharing to deliver optimized throughput and resource utilization.
|
Customer Benefits
- Initial equipment and resource (link) investment is minimised.
- Equipment and other resources (links) may be added incrementally.
- Costs are tied directly to demand (revenue).
|
Distributed Resource
HotPool's distributed resource management provides high availability.
|
Customer Benefits
- No single point of failure.
- Equipment and other resources (links) may be added in 'real-time' with no customer down-time.
- Any failures (resource or equipment) will only reduce throughput until rectified.
- In most fail modes - remote management is still available.
|
QoS
HotPool's Quality of Service (QoS) features provide total user control over what traffic gets priority.
|
Customer Benefits
- Three levels of prioritisation ('high', 'medium' and 'low') selected by traffic type and optionally port number or port range allow 'fine-grained' control.
- Any priority ratio may be defined between the prioritisation levels allowing virtual elimination of 'low' traffic in overload conditions or just reduced throughput.
- Prioritisation is completely dynamic up to the limit of bandwidth. i.e. if there is no 'high' (or 'medium') priority traffic then other traffic types will be serviced faster.
- 'Real-time' control provides for quick reaction to load crises.
- Application Specific Gateway (ASG) features enable prioritisation levels to be inhereted by secondary port applications e.g. FTP, SIP (IP Telephony) etc.

HotPools Components
HotPools is a set of Software and Hardware components developed by ZyTrax and consists of:
Sophisticated Routing Software
- Bandwidth management software constantly monitors and adjusts (up or down) demand and resources.
- Time based bandwidth. Bandwith may differ based on time of day or day or week.
- Prioritisation (QoS) software allows control of priority traffic in overload conditions.
- Multiple 'Pools' with differing user characteristics can be created from a larger pool of resources.
Distributed Routing Databases enabling
- Multiple connections spanning any group of lines on
physically separate Access Routers
- Intrinsically high levels of system Availability
- Almost unlimited scalability
- Intrinsic "Hot Swapping" and
"Upgrading" (Non-Stop operation)
GUI Based Management Software
- Manages multiple Routers as a single virtual system
- Automatic reconfiguration in the event of failures
- Router Wizards to simplify configuration
- HotPool control is effected by a single parameter
- WebFig browser based configuration.
Remote Control and Diagnostics
- 'Both-ends simultaneously' diagnostics
- SNMP based management.
- ZyFIND technology will find and optionally change the IP
address irrespective of the local network IP configuration.
- Telnet diagnostic monitoring
- Zing for Customer On-Site monitoring and troubleshooting
- GoodGuys (a.k.a. Access Control Lists) limit access to diagnostic features on a hierarchical basis
